Fluoride in Erie, Colorado

In Erie, the town has just passed a measure to add fluoride to our drinking water.  This has made me very mad and I have felt very powerless.  Do I go and get a very expensive reverse osmosis filter or do I find a source of No fluoride bottle water for my kids?  I started researching what i could do and I found lots of interesting stuff.  DId you know that the toothpaste you use has 1000 times more fluoride than the fluoridated drinking water?  That means if your kid eats just  a tiny bit, IT WILL KILL HER!  Well, I didn’t want to panic , so I threw out all the toothpaste in the house.  Fred was really annoyed because it took me a week to get to vitamin cottage to by no fluoride toothpaste. 

I will be the first to admit that I am a little neurotic.  However, if I can avoid giving my child poisons, I think it is worth the effort.  I find it interesting that fluoride has been linked to gene mutation of the genes responsible for enzyme production.  When our bodies don’t get the enzymes it needs, disorders like autism result (see previous autism article ). Fluoride disrupts our immune systems, reproductive systems, and DNA repair systems at only .50 ppm.  Cities add fluoride at a 1 ppm rate.  Fluoride is used in rat poison, is a by product of manufacturing aluminum, and has since the 1950s been known to be more toxic than lead.  I found a really good article by a guy who wrote the book on Fluoride being a poison.  I copied and pasted it below for you all to read.  Also, doctors tell you not to  mix fluoridated water in infants formulas because the levels are too high for their small bodies.  Hmmm..  Well, how will i get this non fluoridated water for the baby’s formula if my water has fluoride added to it?  Most bottled water has fluoride in it too. 

I don’t think I will panic too much, but the dentist is definetly not giving my kids any fluoride treatments, and I have to think about the filter, it is really expensive.

FLUORIDE, THE SILENT KILLER

He then became editor at Chemical Abstracts Service, the world’s largest chemical information center, where he first became aware of the health damaging effects of fluoride. He is the former science director of the National Health Federation; he is the executive director of Health Action and president of the Safe Water Foundation. He is a world-leading authority on the biological effects of fluoride and is responsible for ending the use of fluoride in many areas of the United States and abroad.

HARMFUL EFFECTS OF FLUORIDEFluoride is used as an insecticide and a roach killer. Even at the level they use to fluoridate your public water supply, usually at the rate of about 1 part fluoride for every million parts of water (1 ppm) by weight, it causes severe problems. As little as one-tenth of an ounce of fluoride will cause death. It is more poisonous than lead and just slightly less poisonous than arsenic. No one will die from drinking one glass of fluoridated water, but it is the long term chronic effects of drinking fluoridated water that affects health. Dental fluorosis is one of the earlier signs of fluoride poisoning, appearing in mild cases as a chalky area on the tooth, and in more advanced cases, teeth become yellow brown or black and the tips break off. Fluoride in the drinking water leads to fluoride levels in tissues and organs which damage enzymes. This results in a wide range of chronic diseases. Fluoride weakens the immune system and may cause allergic type reactions including dermatitis, eczema and hives. It causes birth defects and genetic damage. Fluoride is likely to aggravate kidney disease, diabetes and hypothyroidism. The amount consumed in drinking water has been shown to lower thyroid activity in humans. It also causes the breakdown of collagen which results in wrinkling of the skin and the weakening of ligaments, tendons and muscles. There are a number of ways that fluoride can be administered. The most insidious way is through the drinking water. Some of you have it in your mouthwashes, or in your toothpaste, or you may take a fluoride supplement which is dispensed in pills or drops.

FLUORIDE A BY-PRODUCT OF INDUSTRY Fluoride is an industrial waste product, a by-product of the aluminum industry and the phosphate fertilizer companies who have mountains of fluoride that is polluting the ground water. They have to get rid of it, and the old solution to pollution is dilution – just put it in the drinking water. People living in the vicinity of aluminum, phosphate, steel, clay, glass and enamel plants are exposed to high levels of fluoride in the air. For instance, the Hamilton area shows extremely high lung cancer rates that decrease as you get away from the downwind plume of the steel mills. If fluoride was left with the phosphate and sold to farmers, it would kill their crops. That is what originally happened when they used this high fluoride phosphate, and the farmers said they were going back to manure.

FLUORIDATED TOOTHPASTE Unless it says on the package does not contain fluoride, you are using fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoridated toothpaste contains 1,000 ppm fluoride. There is enough fluoride at 1,000 to 1,500 parts per million to kill a small child if they consume the entire tube. If a child consumes just part of it, it could result in either acute or chronic toxicity. A four to six year-old child will swallow 25 to 33% of the toothpaste they put on their toothbrush. Don’t let them put it in their mouth unless when they swallow it, it is good for them. People ask me where they can get non-fluoridated toothpaste. They have many brands of non-fluoridated toothpaste in health food stores, so pick up your toothpaste there, and make sure it doesn’t have fluoride, because some health food stores have a couple of brands of fluoride toothpaste. Not everything in a health food store is safe. Always read the labels. Pepsodent toothpaste also doesn’t have fluoride. If you want something inexpensive, use baking soda and sea salt, but make sure you dissolve the salt crystals in water before you brush your teeth; otherwise the salt crystals will score the enamel.

GUM DAMAGE Fluoride actually causes gum damage at the concentrations used in fluoridated toothpaste at 1,000 ppm. Fluoride poisons enzyme activity and slows down the ability of the gums to repair themselves. If you brush your teeth with fluoridated toothpaste, you will suffer gum damage.

FLUORIDE GELS AND SOLUTIONS Some schools have weekly fluoride mouth-rinse programs in which the children swish fluoride solutions around in their mouths. The fluoride comes in a sugar size packet, and on the outside of the packet it says fatal if swallowed. If your child is in any of these programs at school, get them out of it. We have testimonials one after the other of children who come home with a stomach ache because they had actually accidentally swallowed part of it, and children do accidentally swallow. Fluoride treatments at the dentist’s office are equally hazardous. In the typical fluoride treatment, 10,000 parts per million fluoride, which comes in a flavoured gel to make it taste good, is left on the teeth for about five minutes. Then the child spits it out, though invariable he swallows some. The child cannot rinse, eat or drink for at least half an hour afterward. Children have died after swallowing fluoride topically applied on their teeth. In one well publicized case, the dental hygienist neglected to tell the child to wash his mouth out and spit out the solution. The child began vomiting and sweating and died the same day. Over 6% of children receiving fluoride treatments at the dental office suffer gastrointestinal distress such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain either immediately or within one hour after treatment. According to scientists at the U.S. Public Health Service, topical fluoride is practically ineffective in reducing tooth decay, and damages gum tissue. According to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, “the high concentrations of some products (gels, mouthwash, tablets, toothpaste, etc.) may be neither biologically desirable nor clinically necessary”.

FLUORIDE SUPPLEMENTS Tablets and drops are another means of administering fluoride. The Canadian Dental Association has admitted in the last couple of years that children under the age of three should not be given fluoride supplements. And yet dental practitioners and pediatricians who haven’t kept up to date are still giving fluoride supplements to young children. I advise against fluoride supplements for anyone.

ADDITION OF FLUORIDE TO PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMSThe addition of fluoride to the public water supply is the most insidious way of chronically poisoning hundreds of millions of people around the world. Dr. Dean Burk was former chief chemist of the National Cancer Institute, and has co-authored studies with many Nobel prize winners including Otto Warburton, and he is the co-author of the most cited paper in the entire field of biochemistry – the Lineweaver-Burk Enzyme Kinetics. In the 1970s, Dean Burk and I conducted a number of studies which linked fluoride and cancer. There was already scientific evidence from the 1950s that fluoride was causing cancer, and a 1963 study by Driscowitz and Norton showed that increased fluoride concentrations in the media of experimental animals increased tumour incidence from 12% at the lowest concentrations up to 100%. Taylor and Taylor published a study in 1965 at the University of Texas in all the mainline medical journals showing that 1 ppm or even 0.5 ppm increased tumour growth rate by 25%. These studies bothered me and around 1975 I found that we had enough data to compare the cancer death rate before and after fluoridation of fluoridated communities and compare them to non-fluoridated communities. Based on millions of subjects, the study showed a 5 to 10% increase in cancer death rate within three to five years after fluoridation was put into the water after correcting for various demographic factors like age, race and sex. All the variables were controlled. We followed this by a series of other studies. In 1977 we had full blown Congressional Hearings, and Congress stated: “We can no longer assure the American public that fluoride does not cause cancer”. Dean Burk and other well-known scientists were there, and on the opposing side was the American Dental Association. Ten years later, Proctor and Gamble, makers of Crest toothpaste found that fluoride was causing precarcinogenic changes in cells.

HOW FLUORIDE AFFECTS THE DNA REPAIR MECHANISM Epidemiological evidence shows that fluoride causes cancer. It does this in several ways. It can actually cause the original lesion. In each one of our cells we have genetic material called DNA, and this DNA is double stranded, it has a helix shape and these two strands of DNA are held together by semi strong bonds called hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds also hold proteins together. Fluoride goes in and breaks those hydrogen bonds, and consequently destabilizes DNA. It can’t cause a lesion in the DNA itself, but if it is in a site of the cell that regulates cell growth, it will cause uncontrolled cell growth. A few minor modifications will give you first a tumour, and secondly an invasive tumour or cancer. So fluoride has the ability to actually cause the cancer. We have a marvelous system of repair and rejuvenation. Even if we go out in the sun, even if we have a lesion by fluoride itself, we have what is called a DNA repair enzyme system. So any lesion caused by the sun or ultra-violet light will be repaired. The DNA repair enzyme system will cut off the ends and use the complementary strand to repair itself and make intact genetic material. The unfortunate thing is that one part per million fluoride, the amount of fluoride that they use in the public water system, depresses the DNA repair system by 50%. So they have attacked us on the first defense of damage to our genetic material. Since people can get cancer from so many different causes, fluoride is just increasing our chances of getting cancer.

THE IMMUNE SYSTEM Even if the cancer cell starts dividing and invading surrounding tissues, if our immune system is strong enough, it will kill those cancer cells without any remedies, without chemotherapy, without anything and will destroy the occasional cancer that maybe all of us have had at one time or another. Once in a while cancer breaks through when the immune system is low or the DNA repair enzyme system is down, and we will get cancer. Fluoride causes the lesion; it inhibits the DNA repair enzyme, and then inhibits our immune system by 30 to 70%. And that occurs at only one part per million. How does it do that? Our immune system is composed of white blood cells including phagocyte cells that are carried in the blood system. If there is an infection or cancer or some foreign agent, these phagocytes will go to that area and start engulfing and destroying this bad agent whether it is a cancer cell or a bacterium or virus. It engulfs it in a little pocket called a lysosomewhich squirts enzymes and breaks down the bad agent into little pieces. They have other things called peroxisomes which burn that agent with free radicals and either destroy it or use it for building new and healthy cells. These phagocytes will actually eat up bacteria or viruses, and toxic substances are just thrown off. Studies from the University of Glasgow show that fluoride inhibits these white blood cells. Fluoride at levels below one part per million causes a chronic release of these free radicals from the white blood cell out into the blood stream where it starts slowly damaging your body by increasing free radicals. This is one of the reasons why we call fluoride the ageing factor.

NON-FLUORIDATED WATER Industrial quality reverse osmosis water brings the total dissolved solids down to less that one part per million for all the pollutants that might be in there. Distilled waterwill remove 99% of the fluoride all of the time. I also recommend a pre-charcoal filter on a distiller to remove volatiles so that you are not getting noxious gases in your home. These are worse when you inhale them than when you drink them, because they go right into your blood stream and into your lungs. You can buy your water at the supermarket, but quite frankly you don’t know what the quality of the water is. You must take care that the fluoride concentration is less than 0.2 ppm. Some spring waters like Vichy (which contains 8 ppm) are notoriously high in fluoride. Avoid beverages such as soft drinks, beer and fruit juices from concentrate that have been bottled in fluoridated areas. Teas, even brewed in fluoride-free water will contain about 1.2 to 2.4 ppm fluoride. Some people drink 8 to 15 cups of tea a day, and these amounts are large enough to cause dental fluorosis and other harmful effects.

MINERALS IN WATERIf you want to get minerals, you must get them in the proper balanced ratio. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other minerals must be in a ratio that is acceptable to a living organism. Get your minerals from healthy living organisms like vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds, and if you are not a vegetarian, like meats, bones or bonemeal. Beet greens are at the top of the list as a mineral supplement. I don’t recommend milk or dairy as a calcium source; cow’s milk has a very different constitution than human milk.

DETOXIFICATION If you stop taking fluoride, your body will get rid of it eventually. The fluoride that gets stuck in your bones gets stuck there for life pretty much, but that is not necessarily bad. Where fluoride has adverse effects is in the soft tissues. If you take over 200 mg of vitamin C per day that is all you really need for removing fluoride. In three to six months you should have about 99% of it out which is good enough.

GOOD DIET, NOT FLUORIDE, IS NECESSARY FOR HEALTHY TEETH Many primitive societies whose drinking water contains negligible amounts of fluoride go through life without tooth decay because they eat very little sugar and other refined carbohydrates.

DOES FLUORIDE REDUCE TOOTH DECAY? Numerous attempts have been made to show that the amount of fluoride used to fluoridate public water systems reduces tooth decay under laboratory conditions. Still no laboratory study has ever shown that this amount of fluoride is effective in reducing tooth decay. Further, there are no epidemiological studies on humans showing that fluoridation reduces tooth decay that meet the minimum requirements of scientific objectivity such as the double blind design.

Bisphenol in plastics

This article talks about a genetic disorder called a mitochondrial disorder which is made worse with mercury.  The mercury causes Autism symptoms to develop.  The scientist who did the research is going to present his results soon, I believe the article says. 

Now for Bisphenol – This topic is very dear to my heart.  As an environmentalist, I have researched this topic in reference to the effects on our animal species.  Now, though, since I have children, I wanted to discuss how we can protect them from the effects of Bisphenol in plastics.

It is known that this chemical, Bisphenol, that is used in some plastics, is harmful.  Bisphenol leaches from the plastics it is used in and contaminates our food and beverages.  Canned food, canned formula, baby bottles, plastic dinner ware, and some tupperwares contain bisphenol.  Some of the types of plastics leach Bisphenol regardless of if they are heated or not.  Other plastics leach when heated like in a microwave or dishwasher. Bisphenol disrupts the cells in our bodies by becoming an estrogen mimic.  Estrogen by itself is a very powerful carcinogen in large quantities.  Now this chemical mimics estrogen in our bodies and can cause cancer (breast and prostate), early puberty, neurological disorders, Type II diabetes, ADHD and autoimmune disorders.  I want to just show the ways that we can avoid using plastics with this chemical so that perhaps it never needs to be produced again.  Besides avoiding the offending plastics in our lives, we also have to push for Bisphenol to not be manufactured. This is necessary because bisphenol leaches into our water supply and contaminates everything from our water to our soil to our fruits and vegetables and our meats.  It is ever present in our food chain, however it isn’t necessary.  DDT was removed from our food chain and in twenty years it was at almost undetectable levels in animals and humans.  This is what we need to do with Bisphenol – make a ban against manufacturing and using it.

There are seven groups of plastic polymers.  These are the bad ones -  Type 1 (PET), Type 6 (PS), Type 7 (polycarbonate and epoxy resins which are made from a Bisphenol A (BPA) monomer), and Type 3 (PVC).  These are the ok ones – Type 2 (HDPE), Type 4 (LDPE), and Type 5 (PP).

There is a whole web page devoted to how bisphenol is not dangerous.  There are government reports stating that research shows the leaching is below the EPA’s standards.  But what they are not saying is that the EPA’s limit for allowable BPA (bisphenol a) in food is too high.  At that rate, cancers, reproductive deformities, immunological disorders, and neurological symptoms do appear.  The levels for adults are way to high for a child’s body.  One study remarked on the EPA’s use of the word “weak” to describe BPA.  “It is difficult to conceive how a chemical that can alter cell function at concentrations < 1 ppt can be characterized as a “weak” endocrine disruptor.”  (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1280330) .  I believe we are far past the time when we can trust the “allowable limits” that the EPA sets for poisons. 

Besides pushing for a ban on Bisphenol, we should not use plastics that are labeled with anything other than 2, 4 or 5.  All others could leach bisphenol and lead to, in the least, early puberty for our children and in the worst, cancers or autoimmune diseases.  Saran wrap and canned food and soft drinks also contain Bisphenol in their coating.  Studies have shown that these also leach into foods.  The most shocking study found that baby formulas had toxic levels of bisphenol in the formula.  The worst offenders were canned liquid formulas followed by powdered formulas in all metal cans.  “An August 2007 investigation by EWG estimated that at BPA levels found in ready-to-eat liquid formula, 1 of every 16 infants fed the formula would be exposed to the chemical at doses exceeding those that caused harm in laboratory studies.” ( http://www.ewg.org/reports/infantformula).  The formulas in cardboard cans with just a metal bottom had trace levels of bisphenols and formulas in the non bisphenol plastic bottles had no detectable amounts.  One of the baby formulas with detectable levels of bisphenol was Earth’s Best, an organic baby food.  It should also be noted that a new study released last week, showed that DHA in baby food and formula was processed by Martek with the toxic, highly explosive neurotoxic petrochemical solvent, hexane.  (http://cornucopia.org/index.php/replacing-mother-infant-formula-report/).  This is a chemical that is not allowed in organic food, yet Earth’s Best, Similac, and Organics all have this Martek DHA.  DHA derived from fish oils can contain up to .025 ppm of mercury.  So, I guess you might want to try the baby formulas in the plastic number 2, 4, or 5 , organic, and without DHA.  Don’t you think our government agency that regulates this stuff , the FDA, should be doing a better job?

 Bisphenol causes cancer (breast and prostate), autoimmune disorders, early puberty, and reproductive deformities.  Bisphenol is also linked to Type II diabetes, ADHD, and Autism.   SO , IT IS REALLY SHOCKING THAT IT IS ALLOWABLE IN BABY FORMULAS, BABY BOTTLES, AND BABY FOOD!

Perinatal exposure to extremely low levels of bisphenol A causes precancerous prostate lesions in rats. These lesions, called prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, or PIN, are cancerous and are considered to be a precursor of metastatic prostate cancer in humans. One hundred percent of rats exposed perinatally and then, during adulthood, treated with estradiol and testosterone to create hormonal conditions analogous to thos of an ageing man, developed high-grade PIN. In a small prospective study, researchers in Japan report that bisphenol A levels are higher in women with a history of repeated spontaneous miscarriages.This research was based on proof that BPA causes meiotic aneuploidy in mice. Meiotic aneuploidy is the commonest cause of miscarriage in people. The researchers also followed the pregnancies of the women to completion, and found evidence of aneuploidy in several of the miscarried fetuses. More…

Bisphenol A and the birth control pharmaceutical ethinylestradiol cause adverse effects in prostate development in mice at levels to which millions of Americans are exposed each year. The results implicate these compounds in human prostate diseases, including prostate cancer. A flood of new information about bisphenol A revealing both widespread human exposure and effects at extremely low doses sparks a call for a new risk assessment of the ubiquitous compound. Bisphenol A, the basic building block of polycarbonate plastic, alters development of the reproductive tract, the immune system, increases prostate tumor proliferation, changes brain chemistry and structure and affects an array of behaviors, including hyperactivity. Several ‘weakly’ estrogenic compounds including bisphenol A and endosulfan are as powerful as estrogen at increasing calcium influx into cells and stimulating prolactin secretion. The effects are mediated by a cell membrane surface receptor instead of nuclear hormone receptors, the focus of most studies to date. Bisphenol A at extremely low levels causes changes in brain structure and behavior in rats. The locus coeruleus is believed to be a key brain center for anxiety and fear. Normally this is larger in females than in males. Rats exposed to BPA at levels beneath the current ‘safe’ exposure level established by the US EPA show a reversal in sex dimorphism, with males’ LC larger than females.’ . Exposures to 1/5th the level considered safe are sufficient to alter maternal behavior in mice, including reductions in time spent nursing, increases in time resting away from offspring, and increases in time spent out of the nest. An accident in the lab, followed by careful analysis and a series of experiments, reveals that bisphenol A causes aneuploidy in mice at low levels of exposure. Because aneuploidy in humans causes spontaneous miscarriages and some 10-20% of all birth defects, including Down Syndrome, this implicates bisphenol A in a broad range of human developmental errors. I hope some of this has been helpful in some way.  Besides cans and plastic bottles, bisphenol is also used in the coating that dentists use to seal childrens’ teeth.  SO, if your dentist says he wants to seal your child’s teeth, you probably don’t want that done. There are many other places where bisphenol is used, like vinyl flooring.  There isn’t much you can do if your floor is vinyl, however, as far as the foods you eat – try to avoid soft drinks, canned foods, canned baby formulas, and food in bottles with the number 1, 3, 6, or 7.  As with anything, moderation is probably the best.  You don’t want to overload your body with Bisphenol because your body can’t get rid of it fast enough.  And children are much smaller and chemicals’ reactions are much more profound.  I, personally, tossed all the offending plastics and cans and switched the baby’s formula to a no DHA , no bisphenol formula.

Autism and our precious children

Autism, as we all know now, is a rising epidemic.  There has been research and more research, cover ups and more coverups.  The truth has gotten lost in the shuffle with the pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  SO, many parents have taken it upon themselves to do the research for the doctors, hoping to prompt the medical world into following in their footsteps.  Alas, that has not happened.  Thus, I am taking it upon myself to present to the world the findings many have come up with.  I hope that many, many people will read this and the information will be useful.

First, many people and researchers do not believe the findings I am going to report.  Do not be discouraged, it is not harmful to read the information and it is not harmful to do the following things to keep your children safe. 

Autism is believed to be caused by a poisoning of some kind.  Many children past the point of Autism, 5 years and up, have developed signs of Autism after they have been in an accident where they were poisoned by mercury, cadmium, or other heavy metals.  Mercury attaches to our red blood cells and travels eventually to our brain.  Mercury can last two years in our blood.  At any time, the mercury can travel to our brain.  However, before it gets there, it stops by the liver.  In the liver, our blood is cleaned of heavy metals and detoxified.  The liver does this by producing an enzyme (PST) that attaches to mercury and rids the body of it. The PST enzyme requires sulfate in the body in order for it to be produced.  In some people, this gene for PST is turned off and they can not produce PST.  A second gene controls cysteine, which is the amino acid that is used to make sulfate, and if turned off, then sulfate is not being produced.  A deficiency of
cysteine, or a failure to metabolize it, would greatly affect the liver’s ability to detoxify.  This would in turn allow a buildup of heavy metals, like mercury and cadmium.

If a person’s body does not produce enough sulfate, if the dose of poisoning is too high, or if there has been prolonged poisoning, the sulfate in our body is depleted and the liver can not take the heavy metals out of our blood.  Thus the heavy metals will travel to our brains.  Also, when the sulfates are depleted in our body the lining of our intestines is affected.  The lining is a barrier between what is being digested and our blood stream and then our brain.  When this lining is broken down through the depletion of sulfates in our body, a new process results.  Now, peptides from milk and wheat (gluten) can cross the intestinal barrier and entire the blood stream.  Once in the blood stream, these peptides work like opiates (morphine) and drug the body and brain.  Hallucinogenic actions are then seen in the individual – staring at lights and spinning objects, not responding to voices, flapping arms and walking on tip toes, and various other learning disabilities.  These are the symptoms of Autism.  This phenomenon of the intestinal lining breaking down is known as the Leaky Gut Syndrome, and children with autism usually also have the nutrient depletion that goes along with the Leaky Gut Syndrome.  This is why the diet that Jenny McCarthy is promoting works in some children with Autism.  In these children, the damage is reversible.  The rate and the degree of poisoning versus how much sulfate is in the body and how fast the liver can rid our bodies of it correlates to the degree of autism and the various spectrums of autism.  Some children are more susceptible to mercury staying in the body longer because they have less available sulfates. 

In some children, the mercury has gotten to the brain and the damage is not reversible.  Also, many children were poisoned in utero and may not be able to be helped.  Some are born with the genes for making PST and Cysteine turned off.  Along with the diet, the children need to have their stores of sulfate replenished. Since the drug companies refuse to help, there are no easy ways to just give the kids shots of sulfate.  Tablets do not work.  The only thing that has shown progress is to have the children soak in Epsom Salt baths.  The salt is a magnesium sulfate, which is just what the liver needs.  Your breathe it in, your skin soaks it up, and you are helping to detoxify your body.  There is also a magnesium sulfate cream.

Now, there are other ways that sulfates can be depleted in your or your child’s body – soaking or inhaling chlorine from pools, hot tubs or bleaches and digesting dyes, flavinoids, and aspartame in foods.  Besides rinsing off after swimming and using Epsom Salts, you can also look at the ingredients in your food and avoid all these dyes and additives.  There are so many, many other alternatives for foods in the grocery store.  The FDA continues to deny dyes are harmful, so you have to find the foods yourself that do not have the dyes, but they are out there. 

Lastly, ways to avoid mercury, cadmium, and heavy metal poisoning: 

1. Stop getting shots with thimerosal in them, including flu shots.

2. Do not live near a coal fired power plant or a chlorine making factory.

3.  Do not partake in the sushi fad!  A recent study of a Manhattan sushi restaurant’s fish showed they had levels so high the FDA should take them off the market.  Do not let your children eat fish! Eating fish with these metals once a month, well you could clean your blood of that.  But twice a week?  Mercury stays in your blood for two years, if you have enough sulfate for your liver to detoxify it.  If you don’t have enough sulfate, the mercury will stay for years.  Mercury crosses the placenta in pregnancy and in lower doses, breast milk.  Mothers who eat fish two years before getting pregnant can still poison their fetuses.  The sushi fad started in the US in the 1980′s , right around the time of the rise in children with Autism.  The fad slowed in the 1990s and is once again a big fad since 2001.  Japan has one of the highest rates of children with Autism.  Think, Think, Think before you eat fish – are you wanting to be pregnant or make a woman pregnant within the next two years?

4. Mercury is found in some cosmetics, tooth fillings, lightbulbs, batteries, computer and television parts, and cadmium in rechargeable batteries.  Do not let children handle these. If one breaks open in your house, clean the spill up immediately and go to the doctors to get detoxed.  Go to a dentist that does not use mercury fillings.

5. Chlorine is found in pools, hot tubs, drinking water, and cleaning products.  Wash after swimming and take Epsom Salt Baths.  Put a low cost filter on you sink which you drink from.  Do not use chlorine bleach in your house in any way.  Check your cleaning products for it.  Check your dishwasher detergent for it!

6.  The FDA still allows thimerosal in drugs.  Ask your doctor before taking anything if the drug contains the preservative Thermisol. 

7.  Follow a detox regimen if you have high levels of mercury.  Chelation with chlorella, cilantro, alpha lipoic acid, DMSA, DMPs or cilantro are known detoxes (see sources below for chelation).   For children, time is of the essence, because the mercury is bound into the body’s tissues after a few years and the damage is not reversible.

 

Here are some things I would like to see happen:

1.  Some children are born with the gene that produces PST enzyme “shut off”.   They have found the gene and should test babies for it, like they test for PKU.  If they have this gene, they are very susceptible to mercury poisoning and autism.  Researchers should find a way to reproduce the pst enzyme.

2. Pharmaceutical companies should make a more readily available and easier for our bodies to use magnesium sulfate shot.

3. The AMerican Academy of Pediatrics and FDA and CDC should fund research to prove or disprove the above research and then not cover up any findings.

4.  The Diet of NO MILk-No Wheat should be made available to all children who have autism through their doctors. 

5. Children should get routinely checked for mercury and cadmium levels in their blood, any level is an unsafe level.

 6.  There should be more stringent regulations on what products chlorine, mercury, and cadmium should be allowed in.  California bans mercury in almost any product and Minnesota just banned mercury in cosmetics.
